Private Beach in Whitsunday Islands
Locations Of The Best Private Beaches In The Whitsunday Islands.
With their sub-tropical locale in shallow, warm waters, the Whitsunday Islands are awash with beaches that come under the banner of the national park in which they reside – the Whitsunday Islands National Park. As such, most of them remain au naturel and undeveloped and it is thus easy to find a secluded, private beach in Whitsunday Islands if you are on a charter. For developed beaches, there are a few islands that are privately owned and have private beaches and good facilities, such as Hamilton Island, Dent Island, and Hayman Island.
Hamilton Island and Dent Island are both owned by the wealthy Oately family, the former of which is the most developed and populous. It has a range of hotels and resorts and also comes with a marina, an airport and a bank. There are even some high rise developments on Hamilton Island, along with houses and apartments for rent and a six star resort on the northern tip of the island. Dent Island is smaller and less developed than Hamilton, but also comes with a private beach in Whitsunday Islands, and there are also plans for a golf course.
The northern, privately-owned Hayman Island has the most exclusive resort in the Whitsundays and can’t be visited unless you have a reservation. The resort is right on the shore and beautifully hemmed in with palms and foliage, while coral reefs are here in abundance and just offshore. Daydream Island is one of the inshore Whitsunday Islands and features a small resort that is suited to families. There are all sorts of activities available in the resort and elsewhere on the island and it has a private beach in Whitsunday Islands and is easy to get to, being just a few nautical miles east of Shute Harbour.
South Molle Island is a popular retreat and comes with resort accommodation and private beaches. It is between Shute Harbour and Whitsunday Island and is operated by the people who own backpacker resorts in Airlie Beach. Long Island is farther south and largely undeveloped, although it does have three resorts. Club Croc Resort is the best known and is on Happy Bay, while the two other resorts cater more to eco-tourists.
Hamilton Island is the only island in the Whitsundays that has an airport and it also has a substantial marina with good facilities. Of the other islands, you will need to boat it in and there are services running daily from Airlie Beach and from Shute Harbour on the mainland. Many of the resorts even offer boat transfers for their guests, although prices for these digs are generally quite steep. For getting to Airlie Beach, the airport in nearby Proserpine (Proserpine Airport, or Whitsunday Coast Airport) receives flights from cities all over Australia - Virgin Blue and Jetstar both fly here. Trains also go up and down the east coast to Proserpine, as do Greyhound coaches. Shuttles then run to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, from where charters can get you to a private beach in Whitsunday Islands.
